MonaLisa Touch Q & A

What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is an advanced laser tool that restores vaginal health by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and improving tissue vascularization.

The minimally invasive laser treatment utilizes CO2 fractional laser energy to deliver controlled, gentle heat to the walls of your vagina to get the desired results.

Am I a good candidate for MonaLisa Touch?

The team at Woman to Woman Ob/Gyn Medical Group determines if you’re a good candidate for MonaLisa Touch during a consultation. The minimally invasive laser tool may be used as a method to help alleviate symptoms associated with vaginal atrophy, including:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Vaginal burning and itching
  • Painful intercourse
  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Vaginal laxity
  • Chronic urinary tract infections

The changes in vaginal tissue often occur in women as they approach menopause due to their declining estrogen levels. However, you may also experience changes in vaginal health after a hysterectomy or treatment for breast cancer.

What can I expect during my MonaLisa Touch treatments?

The team at Woman to Woman Ob/Gyn Medical Group performs your MonaLisa Touch treatments at the office. The painless in-office procedure doesn’t require anesthesia and only takes about five minutes.

During your treatment, your OB/GYN has you sit on the gynecological table with your feet up, similar to your pelvic exam. Then, your OB/GYN inserts the MonaLisa Touch laser wand into your vaginal canal and activates the laser energy.

You may experience some spotting, redness, swelling, or tenderness following your treatment, but these side effects should disappear soon after treatment. The team recommends you refrain from vaginal intercourse for 2-3 days following your laser session.

How many treatments do I need?

The team at Woman to Woman Ob/Gyn Medical Group develops your treatment plan during your consultation.

You may notice an improvement in your symptoms after the first session with the innovative laser, but to get the best results, you may need three treatments set at six week-intervals and annual treatments afterward to maintain results. Each treatment takes less than five minutes.
